The founder and owner of Gagliole has died at the age of 87.
It is with great sadness that we have to announce that Thomas Bär-Bettschart, the founder and owner of Gagliole, passed away at Christmas. His loss fills us with deep sorrow and leaves a painful void – both in our family and in the community of the winery. Thomas was a visionary and a perfectionist. Over the years, his and Monika’s love of Tuscany and excellent wines became a true passion – and a vocation. With courage and dedication, they not only built up the winery with an outstanding team, but a in a very short space of time created wines of exceptional quality that are recognised worldwide.
Innovation, consistency and passion were always at the heart of his work. That is why the next two generations, thus, have been actively and enthusiastically involved in the activities over many years.
The winery is now officially handed over to the next generation with Andreas Bär, Thomas’ son, taking over. He will continue his father’s life’s work, ensuring continuity together with the long-standing team led by Alessia Riccieri, Giulio Carmassi and Cosimo Soderi.
Andreas is closely associated with the winery and has already actively supported the team in many areas. His deep interest and continued commitment are the best prerequisites for leading Gagliole into the future.
The Bär and Bertschinger-Bär families, especially Monika Bär-Bettschart, will continue to support the development of Gagliole with their hearts and hands. We have a personal interest in keeping Thomas’ values, vision and dedication alive in every decision and every step we take. This special estate has been in our family since 1990 and has become an outstanding winery in the heart of Chianti Classico. We owe this success not least to you, our valued customers, partners and friends. Your loyalty and support mean so much to us, especially in this time of parting and change. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your trust.
