Wine Advocate – Monica Larner

Dear Friends of Gagliole

The Gagliole Team is pleased to inform you that Monica Larner from Wine Advocate has issued Italy, Chianti Classico: Discoveries from Castellina in Chianti
on robertparker.com

Monica Larner awarded Gagliole wines with:

2016 Gagliole IGT: 95 points
“This winery is headquartered in Castellina in Chianti, although the Sangiovese used in the 2016 Gagliole actually comes from the sun-kissed Conca d’Oro vineyard in Panzano in Chianti. This expression offers depth and delicate fiinesse, showing a long succession of small berry fruits, cassis and wild rose. The mouthfeel reveals balanced touches of acidity, power, structure and concentration. Indeed, these are the elements of a classic vintage and a classic Tuscan red.”

2017 Valletta IGT: 92 points
“A blend of equal parts Merlot from Panzano and Sangiovese from Castellina, the Gagliole 2017 Valletta is a cheerful wine with a plump and dark core of cherry and blackberry. Sometimes understated simplicity can make the biggest statement, and that’s the main takeaway here. This is a crisp and linear red that puts most of the emphasis on freshness and purity. Honestly, this is all you need next to a simple spaghetti with basil and fresh tomato sauce.”

2018 Rubiolo Chianti Classico: 90 points

“One of the best value wines in Tuscany, the 2018 Chianti Classico Rubiolo is a lovely Sangiovese with most of its fruit sourced from the estate’s Panzano property and some from Castellina. In fact, this is one of a handful of wineries in the appellation that purposefully blends fruit from different townships. The wine is delicate and fresh with plenty of wild cherry and blue ower. It falls lightly onto the palate with silky, featherweight intensity. I would enjoy it with a porcini sauce on pasta.”
